Empowering digital citizens for health with Council of Europe

In support of the Year of Digital Citizenship Education 2025, DTH-Lab worked closely with the Council of Europe to improve the well-being component of digital citizenship education

DTH-Lab led targeted efforts to promote intergenerational exchange and youth co-creation in digital, health and civic spaces, equipping youth to become informed and empowered digital citizens for health.

In Spring 2024, DTH-Lab, in partnership with the Young World Federation of Public Health Associations, launched an online survey to assess young peoples’ perception of digital citizenship for health. After a series of intergenerational dialogues coupled with the findings from the survey, DTH-Lab in partnership with Youth Health Organization and in collaboration with Council of Europe held a study session at the European Youth Centre Budapest in February 2025.

A key output of the five-day study session was the first draft of a youth authored statement on Digital citizenship for health: Overcoming challenges for youth. Following the study session, DTH-Lab established and led a working group composed of session participants and Regional Youth Champions to finalize the statement, which was launched at the Council of Europe ’s Digital Citizenship Education Forum in Strasbourg, France.

At the Closing Conference on Year of Digital Citizenship Education - The Way Forward in Ljubljana, Slovenia, DTH-Lab presented key findings from research that assessed the strength of the well-being component in 28 digital citizenship education policies across Europe.

DTH-Lab welcomes the Road Map for Strengthening Digital Citizenship Education (2027–2031) and looks forward to supporting the strategic activities to better position youth well-being at the core of digital citizenship education.
