Healthy digital diets: A review of existing guidelines for young people’s technology use

The rapid growth of digital technologies has brought both benefits and risks for young people, supporting learning, communication and creativity while also raising concerns for their health and well-being.

This report by DTH-Lab Research Fellow, Oluwapelumi Solagbade presents the findings of a systematic desk review and quantitative analysis of thirty-six global, regional and national guidelines, published 2015-2025, on the topic of healthy use of digital technologies by children and adolescents. The report identifies emerging trends, key contradictions and persistent gaps, highlighting the need for more coherent, context-sensitive and holistic guidance to support children and adolescents in a fast-changing digital world.

This report was published through the DTH-Lab 2025 Research Fellowship Programme which provides students and early-career professionals from low- and middle-income countries with the opportunity to contribute to key areas of DTH-Lab’s research and analysis.
