Digital citizenship for health: Platform assessment for cooperation, sustainability and impact

DTH-Lab has prioritized digital citizenship for health (DC4H) as a core area of work, with a particular focus on strengthening the interconnection between digital, health and civic literacies. The goal is to support a generation of empowered digital citizens who can actively participate in and co-create policy solutions that improve their health and well-being in a digital age.

Rachael Ogundipe’s latest research for DTH-Lab examines what it would take to build a DC4H platform by drawing lessons from two existing models: the Digital Citizenship+ Resource Platform (DCRP) and Better Internet for Kids (BIK). These examples were selected for their youth-centred design and multi-stakeholder approach.

Her findings suggest that existing platforms have not yet brought digital, health and civic literacy together in a single learning environment. The creation of a new DC4H platform is one possible way forward, but its success will depend on learning from what already exists.
